How it all began…

Like most of us, thoughts of helping needy children in Africa have always been in my mind. While the efforts and amount of time I spent putting these thoughts into action seemed quite challenging, it was always the positive changes such efforts are making in the lives of so many disabled individuals that I believe, outweighs any such challenges. It is an honor for me to be involved in Horn of Africa Sick Childrens Charity (HASCC). I was fortunate to get the support of so many individuals including the HASCC board of directors, members of the advisory committee, my family, and all the other wonderful individuals, both inside and outside the country, who joined volunteering with me in this initiative.
In December 2004, I represented HASCC in Somaliland to carry out a need assessment in the region. I held a number of community consultations where community elders, parents, doctors and other regional professionals as well as women and youth groups discussed HASCC mission and the healthcare needs of children in the region. We were also fortunate to have an opportunity to get the invaluable expert opinion of a Canadian Psychiatrist who was at the time providing free psychiatric consultations to the community during his short visit to the region. Based on his professional feedback, and as a result of the community consultations, children with disablities were identified as those who are in most dire situations. This prompted HASCC to establish the first Center for children with special needs in Borama, Somaliland.
Since then, Horn of Africa Sick Childrens Charity (HASCC) has implemented a number of projects in the region. For each project, HASCC continued showing its commitment to the principles of fairness, honesty, trust and complete transparency that have become the base of its foundation.
I am pleased to share with you herewith, the significant achievements Horn of Africa Sick Childrens Charity has made for the past two years. We look forward to continueing that and count on your support to achieve improved health care for disabled children in the region and empower families with skills to reduce further disabilities in children. I sincerely thank all the organizations and individuals who supported our projects.
Thank you.
